Top 3 Fears From New Members

CrossFit can be intimidating without a doubt. One look inside the box and you’ll see people jumping, climbing, throwing barbells over their heads, throwing medicine balls and more. At first glance you might think it’s something you could never do. But take a look again and you’ll see your neighbor, your kids teacher, the mail man, the girl who works the cash register at the grocery store, a stay at home mom, and a guy you used to work with. Average people doing above average things.

We hear a lot of reasons people shy away from joining a CrossFit gym. In no particular order, here are the top three we hear most often…

I haven’t exercised for a long time.

Thats ok! We have experienced coaches that can meet you at your current fitness level. They will build you up from there. These coaches are skilled at scaling workouts to fit your needs. A spin off of this fear is; “I need to get into shape first.” Nope, that’s why you come to the box. Everyone has a starting point to their own journey. Understand that the girl over there doing unbroken ring muscle ups has been coming to the box for years. She started exactly where you are today.

I’m too old.

One of my first clients was a 60 year old woman. She is incredible! At first she was a little bit nervous about using a barbell, and getting on the pull-up bar. Yet, as she spent more time in the gym getting instruction on proper movement and technique she became more and more comfortable under the bar. The coaches at CrossFit Final Call are skilled at tailoring workouts to each athletes capabilities. What makes CrossFit so great is it’s scalability. The professional athlete and the grandmother can do the same workout scaled to their own abilities, and get great results. Young or old, age is just a number. It’s the heart that really counts.

I don’t know how to do all the exercises in CrossFit.

That’s ok, our professional coaches are there to help you along the way. Before joining a regular CrossFit class at CFFC you’ll go through a 12 day Foundations course. This is our introductory program for people interested in joining CrossFit. In Foundations you’ll get tons of instruction on technique. You’ll also learn proper movement methods and terminology. There will be a short workout at the end of each session and they’ll get progressively more intense as you move through the sessions. It’s the perfect way to ramp up to a regular class, and gain the knowledge you need to succeed. Don’t worry, everyone in your class is starting the same day and with a similar level of knowledge about CrossFit. You’re in this together!
